The performance standard required to be certified to have antiviral effect is to have surface, to have 1/100 (when the antiviral activity value is 2 or more) the amount of virus compared to the sur-face of the unprocessed product.VIRUS REN GUARD was confirmed to reduce the virus adhering to the liner surface by more than 99% in 24 hours. The product met the criteria and the safety standards independently determined by SIAA and received the SIAA Mark which is a certification for antiviral processing. Inaba says, “By obtaining the SIAA Mark, it is a safety guarantee that the product will not af-fect human health.”Unexpected byproduct from anti-viral effect of the printed areaAntiviral effects were also verified in the printing area. Regarding the antiviral effect in this area, Fujimoto explains, “There is some influence of printing. Although there are some aspects that are inhibited, the number of viruses is still less than 1/100 of that on the sur-face of the unprocessed product, and an activity value of 2 or higher is guar-anteed.”“At first, we thought that there would not be an antiviral effect on the printed area,” says Inaba. This is be-cause in the manufacturing process of VIRUS REN GUARD, the liner is precoated with a water-based anti-viral agent. Then corrugated into a corrugated sheet, and printed with a water-based flexo printing process. This means that the printing layers the precoat, and the precoat layer is hid-den underneath. However, the antiviral effectiveness was confirmed, and the company was able to install the pre-coat method. The amount of antiviral coating agent applied is “undisclosed,” but printing suitability (flexo printing) on liner coated with antiviral agent is go-ing well.Development Division Noboru Ito (left) and Packaging Department Hisashi Inaba (right)Viral infection titer reduced by more than 99% in 24 hours (according to ISO 21702 method evaluation)Precoat the entire surface of the liner with an antiviral agent (copper compound)VIRUS REN GUARD mark (left) and SIAA certification mark (antiviral processing)21
