Tosico, a processor of “TOSICAL-S,” a surface inators, and has been adopted in many applications to pre-vent sticking of various adhesives, glues, and paints to roll-ers and blades during the manufacturing process. Mitsuhiro Suwabe, President and CEO, explains, “In the past, the ma-jority of orders came from manufacturers of raw materials such as rubber, but with the changing times, non-adhesive needs are increasing among processors and end-product manufacturers, and the volume of orders is expanding. The current sales composition can be roughly divided into auto-motive tires, semiconductors, and adhesive products.”In June 2022, a new lineup of TOSICAL-S, UNA-1200, was added. UNA-1200 has the ability to minimize the amount of dimensional change before and after process-ing. It features the following three gentle characteristics. (1) It is gentle to the global environment as it is free of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFOS and PFOA), (2) it is gentle to thin base materials as its thin coating of less than 10 μm prevents warping and distortion, and (3) it is gentle to the materials that come into contact.Kazunori Yagihara, Director and General Manager of the Tokai Division, states, “As an example in actual use regard-ing (3), in the manufacturing process of films in general, if adhesive materials are stuck to transport rollers, it will not only deteriorate the film handling, but also cause the film to be defective, having foreign objects or scratches. On the other hand, when UNA-1200 is applied to these rollers, the processed surface has an excellent non-adhesive effect, thus adhesive materials do not stick to the rollers. Even if they do stick, they can easily be peeled off, so the film does not get damaged. Currently, UNA-1200 has been request-ed by clients who handle mass-produced products that use printing machines and automatic label attaching equipment, and it has been well received. We also offer other TOSI-CAL-S varieties, including the one with combined features of adhesiveness, durability, and dimensional accuracy.”Number of applicants surged to 50 per monthThe company has two production sites: the main factory (Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture) and the one in Tokai. 38modification technology that provides non-ad-hesive effects to plastics, rubber, and metals, relo-cated its factory in Tokai, the production base in the Chubu region, which is located in the center of the Japanese archipelago. The new factory is located at the site of the former employee parking lot of its group company Fluorocoat Nagoya (Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture). It was completed at the end of April, and the Tokai Division was inaugurated. The new factory, which began its production on May 19, has a 1.8-fold increase in production capacity over the previous facility, thanks to the introduction of new equipment such as batch furnaces and wash booths. The company aims to further expand its business performance through multifaceted synergy effects with Fluorocoat Nagoya, which is located across the street from the new factory. In the industrial rubber market, the company’s main busi-ness to date, there have been a great many applications for keeping unvulcanized rubber and raw rubber from sticking to machinery and equipment, and this has been a significant support to the company’s business. In the converting indus-try, this technology is also utilized in manufacturing and pro-cessing equipment for adhesive products and coaters/lam-TosicoNew processing lineup with mini-mized dimensional change has also proven to be a hitTOSICO is a group company of Tokyo Silicone, founded as Japan’s first manufacturer specializing in fluoropolymer coatings, and currently responsible for group-wide man-agement and new business development. TOSICAL-S, the company’s exclusive technology, employs a special blasting process called FINE BLAST that uses fine ceramic particles to create uniformed matte texture on the target surface, and then coats the uneven surface with silicone or fluorine to embed the resin component in the depression, thereby cre-ating a high degree of non-adhesiveness.Tosico expands contract processing capacity Tosico expands contract processing capacity of non-adhesive surface treatment technologyof non-adhesive surface treatment technology
