【Interview】Ravi Menon, Executive Vice President, POLYVANTIS

POLYVANTIS, formed in 2024 through the integration of Saudi Arabia’s SABIC Functional Forms business and Germany’s Röhm Acrylic Products business, leverages its core poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and polycarbonate (PC) materials. It also offers diverse high-performance films and sheets, including the ethylene-propylene copolymer (COC)-based “EUROPLEX COC” Sheet. Leveraging this strength, it is expanding into the medical, aviation, and building infrastructure sectors. We spoke with Ravi Menon, Vice President of Commercial for the company, about its high-performance sheet strategy for these fields.

New Single-Source Procurement System for PMMA and PC

Röhm is known as a supplier of PMMA, a type of acrylic resin, and its brands “PLEXIGLAS” and “ACRYLITE®.” SABIC Functional Forms has positioned itself as a global player in PC-based “LEXAN” films and sheets. Through the carveout
(a management strategy where specific business units are spun off into new independent companies) and integration of these two businesses, the company was formed as a dedicated, global film and sheet supplier, handling both PMMA and PC under one entity. The brand names PLEXIGLAS and ACRYLITE® for PMMA and LEXAN film and sheet for PC were retained. However, the resin compound business itself remains divided: PMMA compounds stay with Röhm, while PC compounds remain with SABIC.

POLYVANTIS has sales of approximately $700 million and employs about 1500 people. Its global operations span across 15 manufacturing sites, 5 global inovation centers, and business across 23 countries in the Americas, Europe,
Asia, and Africa.

As suggested by its name, derived from “poly” (meaning diverse) and “avant-garde” (meaning forward), POLYVANTIS aims to advance its film and sheet business based on diverse polymers. For converters and downstream manufacturers, the most significant change is the ability to source both LEXAN film and sheet and PLEXIGLAS from a single company.
