Automating roll packaging with distributed layout, suitable for installation even in small factories

FUJI TEKKO (Osaka, Japan) and KONAN DESIGN INDUSTRIES (Hyogo, Japan) have developed a new system that automates the packaging process for roll products in a space-saving manner, and unveiled it for the first time at “CONVERTECH 2026,” held at Tokyo Big Sight (Tokyo, Japan) from January 28 to 30, 2026. The packaging of roll products generally consists of multiple processes, such as wrapping, edge finishing, and tape and label application. In this system, these processes—which were traditionally integrated into a single large unit—have been separated and configured as independent compact units. By placing each unit in available space within the factory and using an automated transport system to move roll products between processes, packaging can be completed without manual intervention. Securing space for automated equipment is often a major challenge in existing factories. A key feature of this system is that it makes
it easier to implement automated packaging even in facilities with such space constraints.
