Home compostable household products without microplastic residues - revolutionary possibilities through LFGB certification & dishwasher suitability
Global Innovations Germany has taken a significant step towards realizing its current vision by expanding its sustainability strategy. The company is now focused on developing home compostable household products that leave no residue of microplastics, yet retain important material properties such as shape and temperature stability.
There is great excitement at Global Innovations as the company has received both LFGB certification and confirmation of dishwasher suitability from TÜV for a newly developed home-compostable biomaterial. This accreditation allows the company to manufacture household food contact products from the patented material. In addition to already developed and marketed garden products made from home-compostable materials, a wide range of applications are opening up for soil-degradable products in the household sector, including cutlery, lunch boxes and coffee mugs. The material can be used in almost any product made by injection molding without changing its shape, and the product range is growing steadily.
The biomaterial for product manufacturing is 100% recyclable and offers numerous advantages. Lower temperatures are required in the injection molding process compared to conventional plastics, saving electricity and reducing energy consumption by up to 20%. In addition, the material enables cycle times to be shortened, resulting in sustainable cost reductions.
The material can be dyed in ten different certified colors, enabling a colorful variety of products. The colors are home-compostable according to the OK-Compost-Home certificate of TÜV Austria.
Managing Director Torsten Münich expressed his enthusiasm for the development of the new material and emphasized the uniqueness of the product: "We are delighted that we have been able to work with our partner supplier to develop a material that precisely meets the requirements of the market. According to our research, this is the only material in the world that is home compostable without residual microplastics and at the same time food safe and dishwasher safe." The material is distributed worldwide exclusively by Global Innovations, and the producer network is continuously expanding.
Compared to industrial composting, which requires temperatures of up to about 60℃, the material composts in the soil or home compost. The composting process, as well as soil decomposition, begins only after the function has been fulfilled and with continuous contact with microorganisms found in the home compost, soil or sand, among others. The speed of these processes depends on both the population of microorganisms and the material thickness of the products.
Since 2001, Global Innovations Germany has been a global developer and importer with a focus on individual custom products, self-developed patent products and sustainability. The company has a dynamic innovation team that specializes in developing products that meet customers' individual requirements. In recent years, the proportion of sustainable materials in the development of new products has increased. The newly developed material now opens up a new dimension in sustainability. Alternative non-dishwasher-safe materials for garden or industrial applications, which can be used in the thermoforming process, among other things, are also available.
