Seiko Epson, Notice of Cancellation of Plans to Construct the Minami Shinshu Biomass Power Plant

- TOKYO, Japan, April 30, 2026 -

Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, "Epson") announced its decision to cancel plans to construct a biomass power plant in Iida City, Nagano Prefecture. As previously announced on February 7, 2024, Epson had been planning the construction of the company's first biomass power plant, a project designed to secure a stable supply of renewable energy and to help the company reach its decarbonization goal.

However, it became apparent as planning progressed that construction costs, fuel costs, labor costs, and other expenses would substantially exceed initial projections due to changes in the economic environment and that these would result in a significantly lower return on investment. Given these circumstances, Epson reviewed the future of the project from every angle before ultimately concluding that it would not be feasible to continue.

Nevertheless, Epson remains staunchly committed to its goals of becoming carbon negative and underground resource free as set forth in Environmental Vision 2050, and it will continue to work toward achieving a sustainable society, including by reducing the environmental impact of its products and business activities.
