TOPPAN to Showcase Sustainable Packaging Synergies with Global Group Companies at interpack 2026

Tokyo – April 23, 2026 – TOPPAN Inc. (TOPPAN), a TOPPAN Group company and wholly owned subsidiary of TOPPAN Holdings Inc. (TYO: 7911), will participate in interpack 2026, the world's premier international packaging trade fair, to be held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from May 7 to 13.

This year, TOPPAN will join forces with its key group companies: TOPPAN Packaging Czech s.r.o. (TCZ), a Czech-based barrier film production site; Toppan Speciality Films Private Limited (TSF), an India-based film specialist, and Irplast S.p.A., an Italian film and tape manufacturer that joined the TOPPAN Group in 2025. By fusing TOPPAN’s world-class barrier technologies with the high-quality base film manufacturing capabilities of TSF and Irplast, the group will showcase a comprehensive range of sustainable packaging solutions to the European and global markets.

Background and Objectives
As part of TOPPAN’s vision for the Group’s "Digital & Sustainable Transformation," the company is accelerating its global packaging business through local production for local consumption, to draw closer to achieving a circular economy. In Europe, a region at the forefront of environmental initiatives, TOPPAN is bolstering its supply chain by leveraging TCZ's local production of GL BARRIER1 (commenced late 2024) alongside the extensive film expertise of TSF and newly joined Irplast. At interpack 2026, the group will emphasize its ability to deliver high-performance, recycle-ready packaging that contributes to a circular economy.

Main Solutions on Show
High-Barrier Mono-material "GL BARRIER"
TOPPAN will present mono-material versions of its proprietary GL BARRIER transparent film, which deliver high barrier performance equivalent to multi-material laminates while employing single-material compositions for easy recycling.
These products now feature resistance to high-temperature retort sterilization, enabling long-term food preservation while maintaining excellent recyclability. The solutions will be supplied to European brand owners through TCZ’s local production capabilities.

TSF High-Performance Film Solutions for Sustainable Packaging
TSF will spotlight its next-generation portfolio of high-performance films, including retortable CPP (Cast Polypropylene), BOPE (Biaxially Oriented Polyethylene), ultra-high barrier (UHB), and high-seal strength (Hi-Seal) solutions. Designed to enable mono-material packaging structures, these films deliver strong performance across critical parameters making them suitable for demanding applications requiring both recyclability and high-speed processing.
These solutions will support brand owners in transitioning from multi-material laminates to recyclable flexible packaging, contributing to the advancement of a circular economy.

IRPLAST Range of Sustainable Films
IRPLAST LOOPP and NOPP films are ISCC PLUS certified and made from post-consumer waste(PCW) and bio-circular feedstock2.
These films are designed to replace fossil-based materials through a mass balance approach.
They offer the same technical performance as standard films, while being suitable for food contact packaging, 100% recycle-ready, and ideal for high-performance flexible packaging applications.

  1. GL BARRIER is TOPPAN’s proprietary brand of transparent film products that deliver world-class barrier performance. Stable performance is enabled by a multi-layer structure combining a unique coating layer with a high-quality vapor-deposited layer. In recognition of their numerous outstanding features, GL BARRIER products are used in a wide variety of fields, including the food, healthcare/pharmaceutical, and industrial materials sectors. Combining the functions of the printing and barrier substrate layers into a single layer provides an alternative to aluminum foil with a streamlined layer structure.

  2. Irplast’s Sustainable Films: LOOPP and NOPP
    • LOOPP: Made using raw materials derived from the chemical recycling (pyrolysis) of post-consumer waste (PCW). It maintains the same mechanical, physical, and optical properties as virgin material.
    • NOPP: Made using bio-based feedstocks such as used cooking oil or tall oil (a by-product of the wood industry) that do not compete with the food chain.
These films allow customers to contribute to the circular economy by guaranteeing the same performance and behavior on packaging machines as standard virgin materials.
