'Vydyne' AVS receives 2023 Ringier Technology Innovation Award in Plastics Industry

HOUSTON – June 8, 2023 – Ascend Performance Materials’ "Vydyne" AVS has been named a winner at the 2023 Plastics Industry Ringier Technology Innovation Awards. Terry Yuan, Ascend’s Asia commercial director, accepted the award at a ceremony held by Ringier in Shanghai on June 7.

“We are honored to be recognized among so many innovators,” Mr. Yuan said. “Vydyne AVS, a new engineered material developed by our e-mobility application development engineers and polymer scientists, is effective at damping high-frequency vibrations at the source, while also providing structural support.”

Novel Polyamide Anti-Vibration System Technology

Specifically designed to damp noise, vibrations and harshness while also providing enough rigidity for structural applications, Vydyne AVS improves cabin sound and reduces part weight. Vydyne AVS dampens vibrations better than traditional PA66, especially at the higher frequencies of EV motors. And the team at Ascend developed physical validation tests for predictive models.

In third-party testing, Vydyne AVS was three times more effective at damping than standard PA66, and 20 times more effective than aluminum.

Vydyne AVS is being used in the Cadillac LYRIQ, which has been dubbed “crypt-quiet” and “the quietest car I can remember driving” by the press. The LYRIQ sports an electric AC compressor mounting bracket made with Vydyne AVS.

Ascend has designed a new platform and method to physically validate FEA-predicted resonance as well as durability and maximum load. Using computer-aided engineering (CAE), Ascend’s dedicated team works with customers on mold flow analysis, NVH testing, thermal cycling simulation and material, science and process support.
