{"id":2878,"date":"2023-06-02T09:58:07","date_gmt":"2023-06-02T00:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ctiweb.co.jp\/con\/en\/?p=2878"},"modified":"2023-06-02T09:58:07","modified_gmt":"2023-06-02T00:58:07","slug":"aquapak-joins-ceflex-to-support-the-development-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ctiweb.co.jp\/con\/en\/aquapak-joins-ceflex-to-support-the-development-of","title":{"rendered":"Aquapak joins Ceflex to support the development of"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>1 June 2023--- <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aquapakpolymers.com\/\">Aquapak\u00a0Polymers<\/a><\/strong>, the material technologies business\u00a0which has developed \"Hydropol,\" a polymer based on PVOH, that it has joined The Circular Economy for Flexible Packaging (CEFLEX)<sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0initiative \u2013 a collaboration of over 180 European companies, associations and organisations representing the entire value chain of flexible packaging<sup>2<\/sup>.\u00a0 Its mission is to make all flexible packaging in Europe circular by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Membership of CEFLEX will allow\u00a0Aquapak Polymers\u00a0to promote the circular economy benefits that\u00a0Hydropol<sup>T<\/sup>\u00a0provides by ensuring that all flexible packaging is effectively and responsibly recycled by developing robust \u2018Designing for a Circular Economy\u2019 guidelines so that packaging materials are returned to the economy at the quantity, quality and price for end market applications.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hydropol\u00a0is an enabling technology for the circular economy and can be used as a mono-material or in combination with a range of other materials \u2013 it is recyclable, biodegradable, compostable with no adverse impacts on the marine environment. \u00a0Hydropol<sup>T<\/sup>\u00a0can be successfully coated on to plastics, as well as paper and board where it has proven gas and grease barrier properties, with additional functionality such as heat seal and increased paper sheet strength, making it suitable for a range of packaging uses such as bags and pouches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hydropol is a thermoplastic polymer, so can be mechanically recycled back into pellets for reuse. This works well in closed capture loops, such as retail, where Hydropol can be collected in bulk. In mixed household plastics recycling, Hydropol can be identified and separated using Infra-Red during sorting.\u00a0 If this is not available, then hot water will dissolve the Hydropol resin, allowing recovery of packaging materials without contaminating plastic streams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on CEFLEX\u2019s Designing for a Circular Economy Guidelines which gives practical support and advice on circular economy design principles, Hydropol, when providing barrier properties for polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), it is compatible with today\u2019s CEFLEX guidelines for levels up to 5% by weight (its chemistry of Hydropol\u00a0 is very similar to EVOH) and is deemed compatible with PE and PP mechanical recycling.
